Campaign Details: The Oakland campaign was launched on June 18, 2001. ACORN staffers answer the consumer hotline and alert the appropriate partner agency for each case. Consumers in need of a loan are contacted by a HUD-certified counseling agency. Those with predatory loans are referred to loan counseling agencies for possible refinancing, and local, state, and federal consumer protection and regulatory agencies. Consumers receive a call from a counseling or legal agency within 24 hours of their initial call.
