New York City

How to Get Help: 311

Campaign Details:
PACE, the New York City Anti-Predatory Lending initiative, was officially launched on October 18, 2005, with a press event featuring NYC Mayor Bloomberg. Following the launch the PACE team revved up quickly, and began serving people in each of the three target areas, providing legal assistance, foreclosure prevention counseling, and loan remediation, as well as preventive outreach, education and mortgage counseling. The New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) logs intake calls and conducts extensive outreach to homeowners through direct mail and bus shelter ads.

In just the first quarter, 67 homeowners received assistance from the various PACE Project Team members. More than 11,000 homeowners and 600 community groups in the target areas were alerted to PACE by direct mail, and encouraged to call 311. The CBO Partners conducted twelve separate workshops and provided one-on-one counseling to dozens of people. More than 40 community groups received hands-on training on predatory lending issues, building their capacity to prevent and respond to predatory lending at the local level.
