Campaign Details: The City of Boston and the Massachusetts Community & Banking Council (MCBC) developed the original Don’t Borrow Trouble campaign in 1999, which Freddie Mac later expanded nationwide. Boston’s multi-faceted program reaches out to consumers through subway ads, television and radio commercials and direct mailings that direct consumers with questions to call the Boston Home Center. Consumers receive assistance depending on their problem, from homebuyer education to credit counseling to legal assistance if they are already in a predatory loan situation.
